Hello, welcome to the first DevBlog on our new site and today I will talk about a truck that is technically present in the original game, however, with a completely wrong model, how much is still left to finish the mod and a little big controversy about templates. Here we go.
"THE MISSING TRUCK"
If you've played either the original Automobilista or Reiza's 2013 Formula Truck you may not know, but the numeral 44 Ford (or RC, in this case) truck from Territorio Motorsport driven by Edu Piano is actually using a COMPLETELY wrong model and the reason for this varies, from lack of time from the developers to the fact that Reiza does not have a license from Ford which meant little attention was paid to this truck, since Território only ran with one "car" and it was the only one on the grid of its kind, but don't worry, you'll now have the correct model. Only a decade late.
"THE LAST TRUCK"
With a model made from scratch by me (Shadow), the cabin of the Cargo 2428e was the last one left to be done, making the mod now have at least one version of all cabins used between 2001 and 2013, in an incredible collection of 22 different cabins without counting variations of the same model, which goes up to the hundred models(!). And I'm not even going to add the bodykits to this account, because if, we'll have giant numbers that even scares me.
"IF IT WAS THE LAST ONE, WHY WASN'T THE MOD RELEASED THEN?"
Simple, I said it was the last cabin, that is, I still need to make the skins and bodykits for the Mercedes and Volkswagen used between 2008 and 2011, it's not much, but it will still cost me some time. Other than that, I also want to do one last major overhaul of the mod, which includes, among other things: Saving the skins with new templates, fixing minor modeling errors, standardizing some things like the shaders on the glasses. These are small details, but as there are many models and many skins, it always turns into a big snowball. But I promise it will be the final review, once I finish with a certain cabin, I will consider it ready and finished for launch.
"THE TEMPLATES QUESTION"
Oh! Here we go. As part of the new template policy that VSM is already using since the Nissan Zeod mod, now the templates will only be available after the community reaches a pre-established donation goal, otherwise I will not publish them anymore. Let me go into more details:
Firstly, this rule for obvious reasons will only be used in mods where VSM makes the 3Ds.
The target value will be disclosed on the mod download page along with some artifice that measures how much has already been donated, and the amount will vary according to the mod and the number of templates.Obviously I'm not going to charge the same for this truck mod as I do for the Nissan mod, it wouldn't make any sense.
If this idea doesn't work, there are two ways to go: either I'll go for a paid system, even if it's a Patreon, or just "close" VSM, because I'm not interested in selling generic mods and I really don't want to make a mod, even more of the size and complexity of this one from Formula Truck, for free. As the brazilian saying goes: “No even a clock, works for free”.
And before “a certain social group” comes cursing me about anything (I particularly love the term “Capitalist Pig”, it's my favorite), allow me to make a little evaluation here:
As I've commented before, this mod has been technically in production since Reiza released the first Formula Truck game back in 2012, which gives a decade of development. I started to study 3D to make this mod, and not the IndyCar ones like people usually think, soon as I realized that it would be impossible to do more than 1 or 2 seasons on top of Reiza models, since FTruck had a “free” style where teams changed trucks pretty much every race at the time.
To get this far I believe I have wasted, without exaggeration, maybe entire months in front of the computer to make these models. Of course, if I already knew how to make 3D with quality since I started developing this mod I wouldn't have had to redo it so many times, but even so, it's a lot of time invested for something that technically won't will make any return and put together in this specific case that it is, for some reason, basically impossible to find information and photos from seasons back to 2006, 2007 on internet, besides the time I invested making the mod itself, add an equally gigantic amount of research time. I particularly consider I made an impossible mod. If you doubt what I'm saying, google who the drivers were and what teams they raced in the 2001 season and send me a photo in at least decent quality of the truck together. I'll tell you, you won't find it...
About how much I will charge in donations to release the templates, I haven't defined it yet, but I can tell you that it will be AT LEAST U$100 dollars, that would be the minimum amount in my head today and before "these guys" starts to "cry", visit this site here and see how much the price of a 3D is, then tell me how much money I could have made selling 10 models there (the mod has more than that, but some are original by Reiza), instead to make a mod that you can download for free, apart from that my templates folder alone has dozens of GBs at the moment, it's a lot of files.
If you happen to think my mods are not worth the investment, ok, your opinion, I understand, but I recommend you wait for this mod, really, most people know me because of IndyCar mods, but they are Frankensteins based on my first 3Ds that I just, erroneously, keep updating over the years, I even think about redoing them from scratch (which depends on this mod here being a success), but this Formula Truck I'll guarantee it's another level, both in skin, templates, 3D models, everything.
Of course, after everything said here, you can disagree with the policy, or my points, but then it's entirely your problem and I don't even need to warn you that this specific mod will be banned from converting, right?
And btw a certain video on Youtube from my personal channel also went out of circulation, “by mere coincidence” when I updated the template policy here. Yes, I deleted it and no, it won't come back.
FINAL CONSIDERATIONS
Before closing I would like to invite you to know the new VSM site, I created it after coming to the conclusion that the old webnode was ugly and outdated and I really believe I got it right with this new one. From now on all the news will be posted here only, with the old site remaining live for a while just to avoid breaking hotlinks, but it will be shut down soon.
I also want to release this mod at RaceDepartment, but the mod already have 6,5GBs now. I need to figure how to do it.
I think that's all for this DevBlog, and before anyone asks, yes the mod will be out soon and no, there will be no VSM IndyCar 2022 mod.
See you later.
